Artist Bio
Maddalena Mifsud born and raised in Xaghra, Gozo (2005) is a visual artist who is presently reading for her final year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Art at MCAST. Her engagement with the arts began during her secondary education, where she studied Applied Art, which continue to shape her creative thinking and approach to art.
Mifsud’s practice explores the potential of mediums often associated with traditional craft, and reinterpreting them within a contemporary art context.
Her work frequently draws inspiration from nature, incorporating floral motifs, symbolic elements, tribal patterns, textures, details and vivid colours.
Alongside her primary focus, her practice extends paintings, photography, drawings and occasional printmaking, allowing her to experiment with different visual languages and processes.
Her work has been exhibited in several local exhibitions, including “Arts for Rights” at the Office of the Ombudsman, and she was selected to exhibit in Junior College’s “Holqa” International Art Festival. She has also collaborated with local ceramic artist Hermine A. Sammut.
Following the completion of her studies, Mifsud aims to pursue a career in education, with the intention of encouraging younger generations to express themselves freely through various artistic mediums.
